Frequently asked questions

Is this an insurance card?

This program is not a form of insurance, but may help reduce medication costs. The Pharmacy SmartCardTM Program is a discount prescription drug plan that differs from the typical “drug discount card” because it utilizes innovative ideas developed by pharmacists to help save you money. This plan provides individuals with the advantage of group purchasing buying power and provides significant savings on medications.

In addition to savings, when you use your Pharmacy SmartCard, it “plugs in to” the NPS Network which will send alerts to potential life-threatening drug interactions or allergies, provided a patient information sheet has been submitted. And, twice a year a Prescription Drug Explanation of Savings report is mailed to your home documenting the savings you received. This valuable report can also be used to verify your prescription history.

What if I am already receiving a low price for a medication?

The Pharmacy SmartCard Program provides a guaranteed price check. It checks your current prescription price with the discounted Pharmacy SmartCard member’s price. If your current price is lower, you keep that price. If your current price is higher, the pharmacist will reduce their price to match the membership rates. This happens instantly through the use of SmartCard technology, so you can’t lose. It is possible though, that your current price is a terrific price—you were just never told how much the discount was all along.
